The Tritons drove up to Lake Lopez in San Luis Obispo for the March Triathlon Series race on March 22nd. This was to be the first of three weekends in a row of conference racing. Most of the UCSD racers opted to do the Olympic distance race, over the scored sprint race, in order to prepare for the National Championships three weeks from now. After a fun night of camping at the lake, the team got up ready to race.
Darlene Hunt was the first collegiate female overall in a fast time of 2:28:18. Next for the Tritons was Lauren Chiodini finishing in 2:29:59, and Allison Johnston in 2:32:55 both in their first Olympic distance races of their triathlon careers. Also racing for the Tritons were Blair Ryan and Jessica Wall. Jessica raced the sprint race to score points for the team, finishing 35th, in 1:50:30.
The first finisher on the men's side was Daniel Anderson in 2:22:46, making him the 7th Collegiate finisher. Next for the Tritons was Sante Kotturi in 2:28:48 as the 11th Collegiate male in his first Olympic distance race. Richard Armenta was 14th overall in a time of 2:31:21. Tim Machado raced in the sprint race to score some points for the team, finishing 44th in a time of 1:36:00.
