Focusing on Sustainability in Sports

Race Announcements

This sprint distance race will be held at the same location as the first triathlon in history! The Mission Bay Triathlon, put on by the San Diego Track Club, was a run-bike-swim-run event and took place right here on Fiesta Island in 1974.

What’s new for this year:

● We are proud to announce the first ever Tritonman Sustainable Race Tee. This shirt is made of 100% recycled materials and can be purchased for $10 during race registration
● Pre-race Packet Pickup is BACK!!! One of goals is to reduce unnecessary race travel so Packet Pickup will only be available to those who OFFSET their carbon footprint for driving to the race, it’s only $2!!!!!
● We’re using a new race registration site, eventbrite, this year as they help us achieve more of our sustainability goals while providing a fun, new and socially integrated registration system. Tell all your friends you’re coming to Tritonman!!!!!

Sustainability

Throughout the past 3 years the UCSD Triathlon team made a commitment to host the most sustainable triathlon possible. As student-athletes, we aim to shape a greener, healthier tomorrow by leading the way to more sustainable athletics. We hope to use our position as athletes and role models to make a positive social and environmental impact by choosing sustainability as a priority in each decision we make leading up to Tritonman.

History

The original race consisted of 5 miles of running, 5 miles of bicycling, and 600 yards of swimming. We have decided to modernize the distances of the Tritonman Triathlon and have set them to 1/10th of the ubiquitous IRONMAN distance race (500yd swim, 12mi bike, 5km run). How about that?!
